I’ve heard this phrase a lot lately … “Big Tech started as neutral, it is just a platform and that’s it.” Well, we all know that ‘Big Tech’ is not neutral. Everyone and every organization operate on an ideology. We are not neutral beings. If we are not neutral beings, then our work cannot be neutral. Neutrality is a nice concept when we are hoping not to take sides on issues and be fair to everyone in the spectrum of human engagement.
I have yet to find anyone who is neutral … in fact, I have found the opposite. Everyone has an opinion based upon their education, their upbringing, and their experiences. If you were abused as a child, there is a good chance you will not be neutral on child abuse. Most studies show if you were abused as a child, you have a greater propensity to be an abuser. It is hard to remain neutral on issues, and I am not sure that should be a goal in life. A neutral life stands for nothing, and everything has validity. That is just not true. The Bible teaches us that neutrality is disgusting to God. He says:
Revelation 3 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
So, God expects us to take sides. Now, that is a sermon most churches would probably not want to preach today. Why? Because we want to placate to everyone’s interests and not be offensive to anyone. I respond by suggesting you read what Jesus said to the religious leaders of His day in Matthew 23. He was not neutral about their behavior and how their behavior was representing God. Jesus was direct. He was kind, but He was direct, and He expected people to take sides. Taking sides does not mean you hate the other side … in fact, we are to love those who disagree with us and to serve them in kindness.
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
That is taking sides. God has His ideology … it is called His Word. He wants us to take sides on following Him as opposed to following the world. Christianity is not neutral on anything. It takes a side, and that side is what is under attack today.
The Left – euphemistic code words for a godless, revolutionary movement steeped in pathological anger and churning rebellion against America as a uniquely blessed Judeo-Christian, constitutional republic – is at war not with “racism” and “inequity,” nor ultimately is it even at war with conservatives and Christians, but with God. That’s right, their problem is with Reality itself, with science and biology, with history, with the laws of economics, with the fact that individual rights come from God because we are created in His image. Yes, their real war is with God Almighty and His laws of life, with the Ten Commandments, and with the Sermon on the Mount. ~David Kupelian, Editor in Chief, WND News Center
You see, evil has taken sides and its side is influencing society at an alarming rate. I am not convinced we will stop this onslaught of influence and be able to turn the clock back to a day where Judeo-Christian values rule the world. This is not pessimistic thinking … it is thinking based upon what God says will happen in the last days. In the Book of Revelation, the judgments that come upon the world don’t happen because the world is neutral on life. The judgments happen because evil is in control and people have sided with evil. You can’t escape the idea that Jesus said the world will continue to look like the world did in Noah’s day … totally clueless about God. Jesus also said the days will become so dark, that never in history has it been as dark as it will be in the last days:
Matthew 24:22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.
Let that sink in for a moment.
So, what Jesus said is, “You will not stop the spread of evil in the world, only God will end it.” Does that mean we go neutral since we can’t do much? No, our job is to press in on allowing the hope of the Gospel to penetrate where it can, and allow it to do Its work on people who will listen and turn from their evil ways. In our world, the Gospel is like rain … rain will always find a way to enter your house if you have a leaky roof or an area that is not waterproof. There will always be cracks in a person’s life, and that is the opportunity for the water of the Word to enter. Our purpose is to bring change to our world by taking sides with the Gospel and that is where our hope should lie.
Taking sides with God is as valuable as your next breath.
