The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. Do we know of any examples where stupid ideas have been known to spread like an epidemic? Yes, by God! Religion. Religious ideas are irrational. Religious beliefs are dumb and dumber: super dumb. Religion drives otherwise sensible people into celibate monasteries or crashing into New York skyscrapers. Religion motivates people to whip their own backs, to set fire to themselves or their daughters, to denounce their own grandmothers as witches, or, in less extreme cases, simply to stand or kneel, week after week, through ceremonies of stupefying boredom. ~Richard Dawkins
Religion must die in order for mankind to live. ~Bill Maher
Yes, both men are atheists and their hatred for God is quite evident. Why is it important for people such as these men to spew their hatred of God in such public ways? Are they trying to convince people sitting on the fence about God that He is not a valued commodity anymore since we have science to worship? Did God at one point disappoint them in some manner? Or, did someone who believes in God have such an assurance that He exists, that this is what they hate? Regardless of their reasons, hatred for God and all He stands for is a growing trend in today’s world.
In fact, statistics show us there are 450 to 500 million positive atheists and agnostics worldwide (7% of the world's population) with China having the most atheists in the world (200 million atheists). Is this trend in declaring God’s sovereignty even getting to Christians? According to a Pew study in 2019 … less than 10% of sermons preached in Evangelical churches even mentioned hell, sin, salvation, or heaven.
Sin, evil, and the devil all have an aggressive nature to them and are never silent. They are the loudest voices … demanding, accusing, destroying, and proclaiming. Everything that is said from this crowd is based upon a lie, yet they are so convincing it seems as if they are telling the truth. They are masters of negative persuaders … finding something wrong with anything that is good. They never mention that in the name of God, Christians started hospitals, schools, dug water wells in arid climates, fought against poverty, injustice, and human trafficking. Never a mention. Why? Because hatred for good is a by-product of what they stand for … nothing. If atheists ran the world we would have population control and an emphasis on global care as the new religion. Termination centers would thrive allowing you to kill yourself for any reason if you no longer wanted to be alive. Suicide would be legal. Imagine if the atheists were in control … we would be more cynical about life in general, much like what we see today in atheistic circles.
Hatred is a by-product of misplaced priorities. If you focus on what people do, say, or feel … you will definitely be affected by hate. I rarely watch the news anymore because it is so negative and the emphasis is all about who is at fault for something … who killed whom, who is taking advantage of someone else, and what is corrupt in society. It is either about who has been killed, who should be prosecuted, or what disease is coming next that will disrupt your life and bring more fear. It is all so discouraging that it’s no wonder people have attitudes toward each other … people who have no hope are programming us.
The media today is all about injustice, and what people want is what injustice is all about today. If people want to change their sex, live a lie … it is an injustice to challenge it. I find it very disingenuous for a local TV station to say before a religious program plays, “the views of the following program do not reflect the views of this station.” Isn’t it funny how that same announcement isn’t played before the info-commercials or other programs not produced by the station?
Jesus told us that hatred and disrespect for the claims of Christianity would happen. They hated Him for what He said and what He did, but it didn’t slow Him down … and it shouldn’t with us either. Our job is to continue to tell His story and tell others about the injustice of sin. Sin does carry an injustice to it because without God we will suffer the wages of sin which is death.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Suffering the wages of sin is the greatest injustice of all … especially when hatred for God will prevent you from taking advantage of His free gift of eternal life.
